Why I Like...

I like things on Facebook.  Agent Mike Bishop made a t-shirt about it. I wrote a little bit about why I like things on my post regarding my 7 Rules of Social Networking.  In summary, I "like" things on Facebook as a way of subscribing to a conversation.  I have nothing to add, but want to know when other people comment.  Now, Facebook has changed it so I do not receive e-mail notifications on statuses that I've just liked.  Thus, liking is no longer sufficient.  Instead, I must comment "like" to achieve this.  I apologize for taking up a comment space with simply the word "like," but Facebook has left me no choice. UPDATE: I instead comment "!!!" It's better.

  1. I think that this points out the major flaw with Facebook - that they don't think (or probably do and don't care) that anyone other than them is using it as a tool. Sure, you're in a minority and most people completely ignore email updates or turn them off altogether. Most of mine are off, there are just a few istances where I still have them send me a message. It should be up to the idividual though. I don't want to receive notification when someone comments on something I've liked, so I toggled that option to "off" because I can just use the in site notification system. You have far too many interactions to rely on standard notifications, so using the emails makes sense. There was no need to fix anything here!

  2. Perhaps this is a temporary situation.

For several weeks, we were not getting notifications when we were tagged in "notes." The notifications for being tagged in a note then returned.
